The 'ID Photo Maker' is a free online tool that turns an ordinary smartphone selfie or digital camera photo into a properly sized ID photo suitable for resumes, driver's license renewals, My Number Card applications, passport submissions, and various exam admission tickets — all without visiting an expensive photo booth or studio.

If you have ever scrambled to prepare application documents before a job interview only to realize you do not have an ID photo on hand, you know the frustration. Using a convenience store photo kiosk typically costs around 1,000 yen, but this tool is completely free. The process is simple: upload a photo taken in good lighting via file selection or drag-and-drop.

The screen displays preset size profiles for common Japanese formats, including 40mm x 30mm (resume), 45mm x 35mm (passport / My Number Card / national certifications), and 30mm x 24mm (driver's license). Visual overlay guidelines — an elliptical face placeholder — appear on the image so you can zoom and drag your photo to position your face correctly, just like the alignment screen on an actual photo booth. The system crops the image at the exact millimeter ratio and generates a high-quality JPEG.

A powerful additional feature is the 'Print Sheet Generator'. Select your paper size (L-size 89×127mm or 2L-size 127×178mm) and the tool automatically calculates how many photos fit, generating a 300 DPI JPEG with evenly spaced photos and dashed cut-guide lines with corner marks. Resume-size photos fit 6 on an L-size sheet and 12 on 2L. Print at home or a convenience store for just a few dozen yen per sheet.

Face photos are among the most sensitive personal data. All image processing — loading, scaling, cropping, and export — runs entirely offline inside your browser's JavaScript environment. No data is ever sent to any external server, so there is zero risk of your face photo being leaked or stored by a third party.
