PDF Bates Numbering

Bates numbering is a widely used sequential numbering system in litigation, legal, and regulatory document management. By assigning a unique identification number to each page, it enables accurate and efficient tracking and referencing of evidence materials and contract documents. Traditionally, expensive software like Adobe Acrobat Pro was required, but this tool lets you add Bates numbers using just your browser.

You can fully customize the prefix (e.g., DOC-), suffix (e.g., -REV), zero-padding digits (e.g., 6 digits for 000001), starting number, position (6 patterns: top/bottom combined with left/center/right), and font size. Additionally, text color (black, dark gray, light gray, red, blue) and opacity (10%–100%) are adjustable, allowing you to add sufficient contrast against PDF backgrounds or apply subtle numbering when required.

Since all processing runs client-side using pdf-lib, your data is never sent to any server, making it safe even for highly confidential legal documents. This tool is invaluable for law firms, corporate legal departments, accounting firms, healthcare organizations, and any context where document management accuracy is critical.
