PDF Remove Text

There are many situations where you need to remove only the text from a PDF while preserving everything else. For example, when you want to reference only the layout or chart design of a PDF without the distraction of text. It is also useful when you want to delete text from a manuscript before translation to use the layout as a template, or when you need to extract only the graphical elements as image assets. Additionally, this tool can help when you need to completely strip textual information from a PDF containing confidential text and share only the visual elements.

This tool uses PDF.js to accurately obtain the position information (coordinates and dimensions) of text on each page, then visually erases text by painting white rectangles over the text regions on a canvas. The canvas with text removed is encoded as a JPEG image and reassembled into a new PDF using pdf-lib. This ensures that the text data originally contained in the PDF is completely removed from the image layer as well.

Two quality presets are available — High (2.0x scale, 92% JPEG quality, 4pt text margin) and Standard (1.5x scale, 80% JPEG quality, 2pt text margin). The High preset preserves fine details of images and graphics while removing text, delivering print-ready quality. The Standard preset provides sufficient quality while keeping file sizes smaller, ideal for web sharing and preview purposes. The real-time compression rate display and page-by-page progress tracking ensure you can wait with confidence.

All processing runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF data is never sent to any server, ensuring complete privacy for confidential and personal documents.
