Carbon Footprint Calculator

A carbon footprint measures the total greenhouse gas emissions caused by an individual or organization, expressed as CO₂ equivalent (kgCO₂). This tool calculates your annual CO₂ emissions from daily energy usage — electricity, city gas, water, gasoline, and diesel — using emission factors published by Japan's Ministry of the Environment.

The factors used are: electricity 0.457 kgCO₂/kWh (national average), city gas 2.21 kgCO₂/m³, water 0.36 kgCO₂/m³, gasoline 2.32 kgCO₂/L, and diesel 2.62 kgCO₂/L. Results are compared against Japan's per-capita average of approximately 7.6 tonnes CO₂ per year, and also expressed in cedar trees (each absorbing about 14 kg CO₂ per year), giving you an intuitive sense of your environmental impact.
