The Pension Calculator is an online tool for estimating Japanese public pension benefits. It covers two main types of retirement pensions: the Basic Old-Age Pension (National Pension) and the Employee Old-Age Pension (Employee Pension), which together make up the foundation of retirement income for most people working in Japan.

How Basic Pension is Calculated The Basic Pension is based on your National Pension enrollment months. The full amount is 816,000 yen per year (FY2025) at 480 months (40 years) of contributions. Your benefit is proportional to your enrollment period — for example, 240 months of contributions would give you 408,000 yen per year. If you worked in an office as an employee, these months are automatically counted.

How Employee Pension is Calculated The Employee Pension (also called Kousei Nenkin) depends on both how long you were enrolled and your average monthly salary (including bonuses). The formula is: average monthly salary × 5.481/1000 × enrollment months. Higher salaries and longer employment periods result in larger pension amounts.

Early and Deferred Receipt Options You can start receiving your pension anytime between age 60 and 75. Starting before 65 reduces your monthly benefit by 0.4% for each month you take it early (up to 24% reduction at age 60). Starting after 65 increases your benefit by 0.7% for each month you wait (up to 84% increase at age 75). This tool shows you the adjustment rate and how it affects your income.
