About Prime Factorization

Prime factorization is the process of expressing a positive integer as a product of prime numbers — numbers greater than 1 that have no divisors other than 1 and themselves. For example, 360 = 2³ × 3² × 5.

Prime factorization is fundamental in number theory and is widely used in cryptography (such as RSA), computing GCD and LCM, simplifying fractions, and many areas of mathematics and computer science.

This tool performs factorization in real-time as you enter a number, displaying results with superscript notation for clarity. It also shows the total number of divisors (product of each exponent + 1) and the step-by-step factorization process. If the input number is prime, it is automatically detected and displayed.

How to use Prime Factorization

  1. Enter a positive integer (2 or greater)
  2. The prime factorization is displayed in real-time with exponent notation
  3. Total divisors and factorization steps are also shown

Benefits of Prime Factorization

  • Clear superscript notation for easy reading and understanding
  • Automatic prime number detection with badge highlighting
  • Automatic total divisor count calculation
  • Step-by-step factorization process displayed in tree format
  • Preset example buttons for quick access to common numbers
  • Real-time calculation with instant results as you type
  • Browser-only processing ensures complete privacy
