Inheritance Division Calculator

This tool calculates statutory inheritance shares (法定相続分) under Japan's Civil Code Articles 900 and 901. It determines how an estate is divided when no valid will specifies otherwise, and supports both debt deduction and representative heirs (代襲相続).

Under Japanese law, the distribution depends entirely on who the surviving heirs are. A spouse always inherits when present. If there are children, the spouse receives half and the children share the other half equally. If there are no children but surviving parents (ascendants), the spouse gets two-thirds and parents share one-third. If the only relatives are siblings, the spouse receives three-quarters. Half-siblings (different father or mother) receive half the share of full siblings.

This tool handles all standard heir combinations and divides appropriately when multiple children or siblings are present. It also accounts for grandchildren inheriting when their parent (the deceased's child) is no longer alive, as well as deductions for debts, liabilities, and funeral expenses from the total estate to calculate the true divisible (net) amount.
