Licensed nursery school fees in Japan are calculated based on the household's municipal inhabitant tax (income-based portion). The national fee schedule divides households into 8 income tiers and sets different monthly fee caps based on the child's age (0–2 years vs. 3 years and older).

Since October 2019, the Free Early Childhood Education policy made nursery care free for children aged 3–5, while only tax-exempt households qualify for free care for ages 0–2.

When multiple children from the same household use childcare simultaneously, a multi-child discount system applies: the second child receives a 50% reduction, and the third child onwards is free. This tool can calculate monthly fees for a single child or estimate total costs when multiple children use childcare at the same time.

This tool estimates the municipal tax from household income and calculates monthly fees using the national fee table. For dual-income households, the actual tier is determined by combining both parents' municipal tax amounts, so results may differ from a single-earner household with the same total income.
