The Pet Age Calculator converts dog and cat ages to human equivalent years using modern, non-linear veterinary formulas—moving beyond the outdated "multiply by 7" rule. This tool reflects how different pets age at different rates throughout their lives.

The formulas work as follows: Small dogs age to 15 human years at age 1, then 24 at age 2, and increase by 4 years annually thereafter. Medium dogs follow the same pattern until age 3, then increase by 5 years per year. Large dogs age faster due to shorter lifespans, reaching 12 human years at age 1, 21 at age 2, then increasing by 5 years annually. Cats reach 15 human years at age 1, 24 at age 2, and increase by 4 years per year thereafter.

By accounting for breed size and aging rates, the calculator provides more accurate conversions than simple multiplication.
